Serve Day on July 11th began with some nervousness as we were attempting to fill volunteer spots up until late Friday but the Lord provided more than we actually needed!

Saturday’s weather was ideal – not too hot with a nice breeze from the north. Unbeknownst to us, the shelter showers up the street were out of order causing a record number of patrons for Showers To The People, Inc.!

We ran out of clean towels and washcloths and used all 300 gallons of water from our portable tote! People were so desperate to get a shower that they didn’t care whether or not they had towels or washcloths. One team member improvised by substituting body wipes for the washcloths! Perfect!

We kept on going, continuing to offer showers, ice cold water, gallons of hot coffee, yes gallons, PB&J sandwiches until everything was depleted!

EXPECT GOD TO PROVIDE THE UNEXPECTED

It was a long day, everyone was exhausted and then God showed up with an opportunity to help a homeless mother with her five children!
We literally dropped everything! We got on the phone and held an impromptu board meeting on how we could come to her aid.

Another team member called to locate a motel room. Another team member used their cell to confirm the intended motel was on the bus route. Another team member ushered the family to a nearby bus stop and paid the fare.

We simply could not ignore this family’s need regardless of our own needs.  But isn’t this what God does for us?

Whenever we’ve been at our lowest point with seemingly no options, he shows up!  But God….

It was a marvelous day. The glory goes to God alone. Amen.
